The Dairy Fairy thought it would be fun to interview mothers and professionals to give you insight into the birthing process, newborns, and the world of mothers. This month we got the delightful pleasure of interviewing Maèva of HypnoDoulaMaeva, and we couldn’t be more excited to share her expertise with you. Maèva is a trained doula and childbirth educator in New York. She has helped hundreds of families with her knowledge, and we hope her words will give you more insight into how amazing she is.

WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, GET TO KNOW MAÉVA:

What is your background, and how have you parlayed your experiences into becoming a birth coach and doula?

I have a masters in English and American literature and civilization from la Sorbonne. After some time in the fashion industry, I sought more purpose and decided to study hypnosis and became an avid yogi. I have been a doula, childbirth educator, and hypnotist for the past 10 years in NYC. I have taught more than 1200 families and have supported more than 100 births in the tri-state area.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I usually drop my daughter at school in the morning, and after a morning stroll and coffee, I sit at my computer and catch up on emails. I meditate for 1 hour after lunch and then see my doula and hypnosis clients. Evening time I usually teach my Confident Birth class, and whenever a baby is ready, I go to a birth :)

What are your top 5 favorite products or resources for new moms?

Birth and Postpartum doulas, of course! Support with breastfeeding, of course, The Dairy Fairy bras. I also love the Madri collection for easy breastfeeding clothing. A good pump. Nutritious meals! The Confident PostPartum Recovery class covers what to expect body and hormone-wise but also exercises to strengthen your pelvic floor and your core. And a good postpartum support belt!

How has your business changed due to Covid, and what are some of the positives that have come from the experience?

Since Covid, my classes are now online, which has been great! People from Seattle, Wyoming, Sweden, and Switzerland have been able to join my classes and connect with other mums who are due around the same time. I have also started the Baby Wagon, which is a 3-month virtual doula membership where I guide pregnant people and help them prepare for the birth of their baby with hypnosis and mindfulness techniques.

There are a lot of expectations around pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.  What do you think is one of the biggest myths?

I am not sure about a myth, but I always remind people that nothing is permanent. Try to be in the moment, our little ones grow up so fast!

How can moms gain more confidence going into their birth experience?

That is my main focus… Too many fears and disempowering birth experiences and uninvited advice or comments… I like to bring people to what feels best to them and quiet the noise. People consume a lot of content but don’t know what to do with it on the day. By getting educated, people can release a lot of their fears. In the Baby Wagon, we take the time to break it down so people decide what is best for them and their families, and I help them practice mental tools and coping techniques with their partners for the big day!

Do you have any special advice for moms that are interested in entering the motherhood journey support space (becoming a doula, midwife, lactation consultant, etc.)?

Make sure you stay grounded! By nature, a lot of us are helpers…It can be easy at first to overextend yourself.

Tell us your biggest guilty pleasure.

That is a funny expression to me :) ( maybe because I am French..) I don’t think you have to feel guilty when you do something for yourself that feels good! Sometimes If I have had a long birth and after dropping my daughter at school, I crawl back into bed with a good cup of coffee and a book!

If you had magical powers (think fairy dust), what would your power be?

To be able to help every girl and woman live in their true power!

As you can see, Maèva’s experience lies in making women and families feel comfortable during the birthing process. Her sense of calm and knowledge in hypnotism ensures that mothers and their birthing partners have an ideal experience wherever they are.

We can’t wait to interview more professionals as well as everyday mothers.
